What does Imperialism mean?
Imperialism is the policy of extending one country's rule over other foreign countries. -----There are four main causes of Imperialism. They are called Humanitarian and Religious Goals, Social Darwinism, Political and Military Motives, and Economic Interests Spur Expansion.
Humanitarian and Religious Goals are where missionaries or doctors believed that they spread what they saw as blessings of the Western civilizations.
Social Darwinism is where about millions of non-Westerners were robbed of their cultural heritage. Also the westerners applied ideas about natural selection and survival of the human cultures to improve human species.
Political and Military Motives- where steam-powered merchant ships and vessels needed bases around the world to take on supplies. Nationalism also played a very important role with the nations like Britain and Germany.
Economic Interests Spur Expansion is where the Industrial Revolution created overseas expansion. Manufacturers wanted access for steel and palm oil for working their machines. They also hoped for new people to come to their markets and to but there products. The Europeans made other countries be easily influenced by what they did to them. The Europeans were very strong and powerful back then during Imperialism. The Powers of Europe were strong and had many postitive things about them, that could help take over any othercountry. Now here is a video showing you about the European Imperialism in Africa. The European's thoughts:the Europeans thought that they were doing a good thing with imperialism. They thought that if they would go to other countries to take over then they would be able to take their ideas with them to share them with that country. For example with the producing of steel and palm oil to make to sell in their markets to get people to buy them and so they could get money. The Europeans knew that they were doing a good thing with taking their ideas with them to other countries so the world could become a better place and environment. The Victim's thought: the victim's thoughts werethat they did not like the idea of the Europeans coming over to their country to try and teach them new ways of living their lives. They thought that they were being treated like little kids in the way of what to buy at the markets and where to live and what religion to study and to become apart of. They hated the whole European Imperialism thing and did not agree with any part of it.
The consequences: the consequences of Imperialism is that the Europeans took the idea over to many countries and shared it with them to try and do things their way. For example like the European's cultures and what was on the markets to buy and stuff. The Europeans were trying to get the Africans to agree with them on thier cultures and the way they lived, but the Africans did not like the ideas that the Europeans were sharing. So the consquences were that when the Europeans shared the Imperialism idea to the other countries it made a big mess. And what I mean by that is that it created hatred between the countries, because they would always try to prove each other wrong by which religion was better.
